What is a doula?
A doula is a non-medical professional there to support the
mother, partner, and family as they prepare for the birth of their new family member. During labor, a doula participates by
giving the mom the support needed to have the best possible birthing experience.
Having a doula can help reduce the stress levels during birth. A
doula helps mom find the confidence within her to do what comes naturally.
A doula never performs medical services or gives medical advice.
A doula encourages communication between the mother’s caregiver (midwife or obgyn).
Why have a doula?
- A doula works with mom and partner to help them create a personal birthing plan.
- A doula has a unique understanding of the mothers physiology
and emotional needs during in labor.
- Stays with mom during the entire labor
- Works to encourage open communication between expecting
parents, obgyn or midwife.

Doula Services
- One initial visit, free of charge. This is the time for mom
and partner to see if I am a good fit.
- 2 prenatal visits (They can both be with the doctor or midwife
or mom can have one at home and one with caregiver)
- 4 weeks prior to birth, I am available to mom to help set
up the baby's area. This will help me to know where things are if there is a home birth.
- 24/7 on call 2 weeks before the birth (I am also available
if there is an early delivery)
- I stay with you for the labor and delivery and 2 hours after
birth or until you are comfortable breastfeeding.
- 2 weeks postnatal visit to talk about the birthing experience.
